As my title suggests, I am overworked. They decided add a large amount of hours to our schedule and cut our hourly rate so that our yearly pay remained the same. So, we are doing more work for less money. In the meantime, long-standing employees are quitting at a furious pace. The new schedule means that the only way to cover for departing employees are for the other two clinicians at their base to work 36 hour shifts to cover that person. Or, the aircraft has to go out of service. There is not a single (non-new hire) med crew member at my base that has not individually told me they were looking at job listings. During one of the conference calls the president of air medical actually said that they thought our old schedule would decrease the number of suicides, but it didn't. So...basically who cares if you are killing yourselves anyway, lets just work you more, right? I don't see how this can't be worse. Even though I won't be one of the ones that kills my physical self over these hours, know that you have broken my spirit. I worked so many years to be prepared to do this job and I'm good at it. Now the only reason I haven't quit is that I keep hoping you will realize the error of your ways and make it right.

New scheduling and pay practices were initiated recently that have destroyed moral among nearly all medical crew and some within the pilot group. Medical crews were reduced to three of each practice, working ten 24 hour shifts a month. And while their annual salary may or may not have increased, their hourly pay was determined based on the required number of hours worked and the local OT laws. So crew members from state to state will have different hourly pay in order to equal the same annual salary. At the same time, a "pool" of crew members was created to fill vacancies caused by vacation and required training. This was all done in the name of reducing out of service time. However, it's had the opposite effect. Management, strongly led by company president, Mr Motzkin, has driven all of this change without involvement or input from the staff. When opinions are given during stakeholder calls the response given is always, "We hear you and we're taking what's being said under consideration." But what the employees hear is, "We hear what you're saying, and the answer is, no." This is a good company that was a great company. And if management would see what they are doing they could prevent it from becoming a bad company. But will they??
