Clinical Operations is a cult

Business Outlook

Pros

Previous CEO, benefits, pay, benefit

Cons

The new CEO. In addition, PTC Therapeutics has a clinical operations department with a cult-like atmosphere, where decisions are based on personal feelings rather than qualifications. The head clin ops lead creates an exclusive inner circle, suppressing dissenting opinions and discouraging critical thinking. Career advancement is influenced by personal connections rather than professional achievements. Potential job seekers should be cautious about joining this company if they value fairness, professionalism, and transparent decision-making.

Thank you for the feedback. At PTC, as we continue to build our innovative and entrepreneurial biopharmaceutical company, we recognize that changes and growth can be uncomfortable. We are committed to encouraging open discussions across geographies and departments to allow all of us to learn from one another. We believe the best idea wins – no matter where it comes from, and that working together with the goal of bringing our treatments to more patients is what’s most important. Our leaders value collaboration and diversity of thought and ideas. Our core values of striving to be “Ever Better” and working as “One PTC” are of the utmost importance to our culture. Our managers are committed to developing their team members and providing opportunities for career growth and personal development. We know that giving our colleagues the ability to learn and advance in their careers is integral to our company’s success. Our work to bring therapies to patients with unmet medical needs can be challenging, but our goal is to balance this important mission with creating a positive work environment that meets the personal and professional goals of our colleagues.

The chaos is unnecessary

Pros

GROW department leadership is solid. Coworkers support one another towards a common goal. Process improvements and initiatives actually add value and are well thought out. People are treated like people, and there is reasonable flexibility.

Cons

I'm concerned about senior leadership. The vision for the company is clear, but there is no planning. Fire drills and urgent-now not urgent work is common. I've been at other fast-paced pharmas where it's not this chaotic. Senior leadership doesn't support or go to bat for their employees, instead pushing down pressure and demands when they can't make up their minds or plan appropriately. Strategy - what strategy?

Thank you for the feedback. It’s great to know that PTC colleagues support each other, which makes our culture special and creates our PTC family atmosphere. It is also good to hear that the many initiatives within GROW have made a positive impact. As you know, the work PTC does in the rare disease space often places the science, regulatory, and business strategies in new territories with limited precedence. This is exciting, but it also means the company must be nimble so to rapidly address new information as it arises within ever changing environments. We understand that this can result in urgent work & projects at times. However, it is our goal to prioritize and balance workloads. We are open to suggestions from employees when they see an opportunity to be “ever better.” They should feel comfortable sharing ideas, feedback and suggestions with our leadership team.
