Pros

Interesting engineering projects spread across 6 western states. Traditional knowledge on how utility operates can be gained working here.

Cons

Company does not value employees whatsoever, management does not communicate and has air of superiority towards others. Non-competitive benefits/salary with industry norms. No effective bonus system for hard work. Old boys club atmosphere does nothing to promote a diverse workplace. Very negative work atmosphere overall as employees are discontent.

Pros

Regulated monopolies tend to stay in business. Historically good pay. Friendly co-workers. Okay benefits but always changing.

Cons

As a regulated utility with restrictions on raising rates, the only way they can keep their ROI if people keep electricity use stable is to manage costs. Some costs have to go up, but if they reduce some such as payroll/benefits they can maintain status quo. Unfortunately that can mean layoffs, outsourcing, and not filling positions when employees leave. It really depends on where you get a job in the company, and, to an extent, if you're non-union. Morale isn't what it used to be. It's not fun working in fear of losing your job. Even if you've been there 30+ years.

Pros

As a big energy utility, it can be considered an easy step to bash what is considered by many to be a "monopoly". however, this company truly works to ensure its customers and employees are treated well.

Cons

Sometimes you may work a bit longer in a given week, but managers do what they can to compensate. The benefits aren't the absolute best but there are programs like Healthy U in place to help you reduce costs
