Thank you for taking the time to provide a review! Camps don't pay the same as other jobs, but we try to offer other perks many jobs don't like free offsite housing, utilities, Netflix, etc., and provided meals when working. Camp counselor life won't make you rich but we hope beats a 9-5! Camp in the mountains with energetic kids can also be tough sometimes, days are long at camp, especially in the winter! We appreciate your time with us and the kids.

Pros

Very nice housing Decent pay for the industry Leadership does their very best to help where they can

Cons

Leadership has no power to change anything and very little time to be staff advocates LONG hours. 22 1/2 a day is not an exaggeration Work culture can get toxically negative sometimes depending on who you hang out with

Thank you for your review, camp life is often long hours! We have been working on ways to incorporate more days off throughout the season, additional perks, etc., Anyone with concerns about people contributing or creating a toxic work environment should discuss that with an assistant director, staff supervisor or director to look into and address, positivty within the people you work around can make all the difference! Sorry to hear you felt that way.

Pros

a lot of fun. you will meet many like-minded individuals and spend a lot of time together. great if you need a place to live or want to move cross country to explore California. most kids enjoy the programs and are fun to work with. 3 meals a day when you're working.

Cons

pays less than minimum wage, all things considered. some staff can be a little r@cist, a little hom0phobic, but that's the camp life in a nutshell. if you are queer/trans and don't mind being stealth it's a good time. there's not much to do in running springs, so make plans to explore down the mountain on your time off or you'll find yourself at the awful staff parties. do not go to champagne and shackles.
