Pros

Panagora is a quickly growing small business with a great reputation in the industry. The company and it's leadership are known for expertise in monitoring and evaluation, organizational learning, and global health. I really enjoyed working with smart, knowledgeable, and interesting colleagues every day! The company has a strong commitment to it's mission and diversity which is felt throughout the company culture.

Cons

A great place to get project management experience. At times limited technical opportunities due to the size and type of contracts Panagora implements.

Horrendous culture

Pros

Excellent place to grow if you are willing to be micro-managed and are willing to do the same to your subordinates. The sky is the limit if this is your personality.

Cons

No trust in employees, you are micromanaged to an unexplainable level, regardless of whether you are in a junior or senior position. No understanding or respect of local cultures, ethnic diversity or even diversity of thought. All is under the guise of no compromise on performance and juxtaposed to a young organization that internally really has very little in place and very little by way of knowledge (as it cannot seem to keep individuals who have been in the development space for more than a few years). This strategy has served them well in the short run, but will be short lived. You cannot sustain an organization operating this way. The turnover is tremendous and not many people are willing to work for this company. More and more individuals are coming in earlier in their careers, and are seeing this purely as transitory. Punch the clock for a year max and then move on as soon as something better comes along. There is no internal belief in this company and the donors are starting to wake up to the very little added value provided. Seems it is in a downward spiral.

Interesting work but not worth the exhaustion

Pros

Good for lower level employees wanting to gain experience working with USAID and reputation of the company in the industry is positive. Really dedicated and smart colleagues who keep you afloat. Interesting project portfolio.

Cons

There is little to no work/life balance and overworking is praised and rewarded. Career trajectory is not clear nor consistent. Lots of micromanagement from the top down and disguised as part of the culture. Program management staff are expected to do admin, financial, and communications work but are not compensated fairly. Most work is trial by fire because everyone is too overworked for training and systems are still being built.
