Pros

the discount was amazing! 65% off anything under $10. Coworkers all got along, all friendly and funny people. Made a lot of friends. I loved what Panera stood for. I loved giving away the left over pastries to soup kitchens! Most restaurants do not do this. The food is amazing! Gave me a great experience with dealing with people, good first job!

Cons

lunch rush was always terrible. customers who were rude or complained about their orders. long hours as a cashier or line person. I worked 11-7 a lot. people called out a lot and managers expected workers who worked all day to pick up their closing shift. surveys. The managers took surveys very seriously, sometimes too seriously. Managers did not understand employees had a life outside of Panera and always expected us to work. Rarely got out of work on time and sometimes went all day without breaks. closing dining room or dish.

Pros

It's a great job for those who want a first job, part time or flexible hours, if your an associate who is ok with minimum wage.

Cons

Managers work like dogs, while associates work at minimum wage pace. Salary under industry average, therefore, talent pool is usually from within in which leave lack of experience or maturity. High rate of turn over makes for constant interviewing, training and hiring. It's hard to keep good staff at wages and no benefits offered.

Pros

I loved the people I worked with, even with their HS/college kid drama. The overall work atmosphere is comfortable and the managers I worked with were very supportive and encouraging. Plus, the customers really are fantastic!

Cons

The training is extremely corporate and some of it is flat out useless at the store level. But if you'll pay me for three days sitting in a conference room being bored, I guess I'll show up. The same goes for new menu items - it is very obvious that the people at corporate who make the decision to add odd items to the menu (pasta, shrimp...?!) have not worked behind the counter in a very, very long time if ever. Its frustrating to deal with, especially as a manager who is supposed to be positive and uplifting. There is little value put on your life outside of work. Unless you have a great management team and GM in your current cafe you'll be fighting for decent hours. I've worked in 4 cafes in Denver - 2 had livable scheduling for the management team.
