Pros

Great pay, Fantastic benefits, solid work/life balance, authenticity at each level, a fun culture, a great product, a compelling vision,

Cons

PaperCut has all the right ingredients... We are just still figuring out the best way to balance worker autonomy/ creativity with clarity in decision-making. It's never easy to find the sweet spot, but I think we are getting close. 5 years in, I have had a few reality checks, and more than a few disappointments, but who hasn't? Overall PaperCut is still the company I see myself at 5 years from now.

Thank you very much for your feedback, I hope you know that we do take the advice to heart. The leadership team and I consistently work on staying true to our purpose and values, while continuously improving our PaperCutter, channel and product experience. As you’ve mentioned, we’re all learning together. I hope you’ve managed to find the balance you need to circumnavigate this new world post the last two years through our flexible working philosophy as well as having some further clarity on your role, your contribution with us, and where you fit in with the team. We’re glad to have you on board with us and I look forward to the next 5 years together! - Chris

Pros

-Perks are solid. Lots of PTO, and work schedules are fairly flexible. Lots of talk about coffee -Pay is fairly high by industry standards -Work is as interesting as print management can be -Great company if you prioritize work/life balance

Cons

-Company is very Australia-centric. Great if you live in Australia, bad if you live somewhere else -Borderline toxic positivity -Writing blogs and leading initiatives (you'll hear this word attached to pretty much anything) gets you ahead, knowing your job and working hard won't get you much -Management at all levels is a clique, and probably one you won't get into. A small group of individuals in cahoots with senior management make 90% of the decisions, even if they don't hold formal leadership roles within the org. The "non-hierarchial" structure really just means you need to be part of the in-group to have any kind of influence -Very easy to get sidelined if you disagree with leadership. Execs have clear favorites that have been tagged as the future of the company

Thank you for taking the time to submit your feedback. I’m really glad to hear you appreciate the balance between your work and home life at PaperCut, as well as the other benefits that we offer. I’d also like to thank you for your contribution to the business over the years. I sincerely apologise for the fact that you feel as though your voice isn’t adequately heard across the whole of PaperCut. As you mentioned, these issues have arisen from how leadership and decision making is clarified in PaperCut, which has resulted in the perception of an “in-group” of influential figures across the business. I recognise that PaperCutters have had similar experiences in all of our regions. Increasing our awareness of how decision-making processes affect and are perceived by employees is an ongoing lesson for PaperCut as we scale and change. While these are important areas for improvement, I do believe that we are actively taking responsibility for recognising, investigating, and improving them moving forward. We are doing this through our ongoing DEIB (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging) work, the psychological safety program, and the introduction of our new leadership groups with the aim to better define and diversify decision-making. I hope that these steps that we are taking will provide many more opportunities for your voice to be heard and become more influential. I also want to recognise your point about borderline toxic positivity. As ‘Caring’ is one of our core values as a business, we do think it’s vital to celebrate successes and special events as they occur, which may at times contribute to a culture of pressured positivity. Here, as well, we need to find the right balance, and we are dedicated to doing this by bringing attention to the issue, acknowledging that celebrations take many forms and inviting a variety of different communication styles to contribute. We're learning there are various approaches we need to apply to suit a wide range of styles but ultimately do so with good intentions. Again, thank you for your contribution to PaperCut over the years. I’d be happy to catch up remotely or chat via email if you’d like to discuss further. In addition, if you'd prefer to retain your anonymity from me or others across PaperCut, Matt Doran is more than happy to offer his time to hear about your experiences in more depth. - Chris
