Great People, Disorganized Management

Pros

There are some really fantastic people who work at WTS. There are a lot of fun activities there, like the City Scour and the Holiday Party. They have a corner on the market. There are few competitors in this industry, and if they could get beyond the fact that they are their own greatest hurdle, then they have the potential to be a fun, dynamic company that is really going places.

Cons

They nickel and dime their customers, which means you have to nickel and dime your time entry. Every 15 minute increment must be accounted for, and according to pre-set division or company goals, account for a certain percentage of billable time. There is not a focus on customer satisfaction. The software is unwieldy and hard to support. There is so much turnover that it is hard to find answers when you get stuck. Customers end up waiting days for answers that should take hours because of internal issues with finding willing resources to answer questions. The management is, I think, aware of the problem, but did nothing of substance to fix the problem. You can re-organize all you want, if you don't address the root cause of the issue, nothing is ever going to be fixed. Also, they tend to pigeon hole employees. Only managers get to help out with projects that aren't related to your specific role, and people get bent out of shape if you take on other projects. They are not interested in growing their employees. The pay is sub-par for the Madison area.

Pros

The culture is great. Casual dress code, open office, and fun work activities. Pretty standard benefits package for the IT industry.

Cons

If you are not a self-learner, do not apply. WTS has a very poor training program and it will be your fault if you don't catch on quickly. Your mentor will not have time to properly train you. They have a utilization target that they must hit, and the time they spend with you is on their own time. Project Managers are the only ones that get promoted and on top of it, they make the most money. The product managers know less about the product than the senior services resources. Bugs sit on the shelf for years and things just stay broken. And if you think that years of service will mean anything to management, you would be wrong. You will not get any career growth out of this company. You will be pigeon holed into your role. After a year or two the smart ones figure this out and leave.

Pros

job hours are very flexible. staff is friendly and welcoming of all skill levels. low expectations.

Cons

virtually no training of any kind for either new or existing employees. any additional training is done on the employee's time, no allocated budget large divide between executives and employees when it comes to direction and goals. customer is always first, even if they are wrong or ill informed. sales team promises unrealistic deliverables and timelines. management does not invest in employees or their professional growth, very little advancement opportunities.
