Pros

- Work/life balance is great because working from home is widely accepted and technology is in place to make it work very smoothly. Working hours are pretty flexible too. I'm sure this depends on team and role (customer-facing roles have more commitments and such). - Culture is relaxed. Dress code is casual. Gatherings, parties, events, random food treats are common. - Newer projects are using modern technologies and tackling some interesting problems. - I feel like I have job security since the company is doing well. - Pay is decent for what I do, although I needed to really ask for it.

Cons

- Billable time in Services. In my opinion this is a legitimate conflict of interest. We are not motivated to get stuff done quick, fast, and improve for next time, because hey, no matter how long it takes we can bill all the way! - Health insurance seems expensive, although to be fair I'm not up to date on what's competitive. I pay over $6,000 a year (employee+spouse) out of pocket before insurance covers anything other than a yearly checkup and flu shot. Keeps rising each year too. With company financial success I think core benefits should improve, not get more expensive! - A lot of the new projects are using modern technologies, but most of the existing customers are still using outdated tech. So, if you are on a team doing new stuff it's pretty cool, but if you end up supporting the old stuff it's a lot less fun, and for a developer not very good for advancing in-demand career skills. - Software teams are usually led by non-technical or low tech people. This can be ok, but in my experience here it's less than ideal. The managers don't know enough about how the software works to at least explain enough of the business needs for the developers to take over, so we rely too much on the developers knowing the business stuff themselves. That can be fine but it's less efficient. - There is friction/inefficiency/incompetence in the cooperation among divisions of the company (product/services/cloud ops) and it has made little to no progress over the years. - There is a lot of tribal knowledge that isn't spread around enough or put it a safe place. There are ~5-10 tech people at the company that house a scary amount of knowledge and know-how in their head, such that if they left, I'd be very worried.. - The company is growing, so change is understandable, but the team structures change so often that it's weird and makes me lack confidence in the leadership. They seem to think it's all about top-down changes, changing management structure, but they don't invest as much in bottom-up employee & team improvements. The changes always seem to involve more management positions and layers of management, and conveniently for them better-sounding titles for managers. They make fewer serious improvements to hiring more workers with more skills, staffing products and projects with competent people, making functioning systems of support, or making sure knowledge isn't siloed.

Pros

The team I am a part of is a really great group of people. In my position I've been able to travel to some beautiful places. I've also been able to work on a variety of technologies in a short amount of time gaining a lot of valuable experience.

Cons

Micro management and just poor management overall at the top. As my time here continues there is a glaring flaw that this company hires so many managers at every level but not enough people to actually do the work. Instead they like to utilized offshore work to make as much of a profit as possible. This goes all the way up to the very top. There are so many occasions where particular things are developed out of order and then there is pressure coming from the CEO to a developer to complete a project before that project is defined, and once he has an idea he doesn't care about any of the work needed to get to that end point. He just wants it done and he wants it done now it doesn't matter if there's no reasonable way to test real world scenarios or that the work that decisions that need to be made on the setup can significantly change what needs to be done at the end point.

Pros

-Generally kind coworkers, willing to take time to explain things and share knowledge when asked. Enjoyable to get to know outside of work. Lots of interests and personalities that mended well together. -Industry leader - works with the most well-known manufacturers and retailers. Some really exciting new technology and products starting to roll out to new markets. -Cares deeply about nurturing customer relationships and surveying customers and their end users to improve. Shares trends/feedback openly with staff - this goes a long way. -Growing extremely quickly, lots of new opportunities on different types of customers around the world. -Fun events (citywide scavenger hunt, holiday gala, day to day events in the office with food, drink, and puppies) to break up the day to day. -Compensation and benefits are solid. They recently increased 401k contributions and decreased the vesting period. -Pretty big into work-life balance and not taking work home, for non-management roles. Work from home was common and a non-issue as long as you got stuff done. -Engaged and approachable leaders. The CEO, CFO, Directors, and Product Owners were easy to talk to and offered help rather than assigning blame. Even though the company is growing, Nate (CEO) knows everyone's name.

Cons

-Others have mentioned - FAST growth so a steep learning curve. Not as many experts as the company needs to grow everyone's knowledge. Tough to balance work when there's such a skills gap. -Tribal knowledge tough to gain. Lots of "person x is the only person who knows y". Bigger issue for devs and consultants than PMs, but leads to some egos and having to tell customers "no". -Services never seems to be able to deliver on time. A smart bunch of people who work hard but have trouble delivering. I can't remember one project that got to the promised go-live successfully without a delay or major escalation. Really demoralizing and sets a cultural precedent. When I left, it was a company priority to figure out. -Growth has meant lots of projects on similar timelines. It often seemed like a fight to get work scheduled with the hosting team and I worried about people burning out. Seems to have gotten better just before I left. -I didn't get much feedback; self-assessed myself as failing and it wasn't until I resigned that I started hearing feedback on my performance and impact to the team.
