Pros

The environment. The people you meet and work with. Very laid back atmosphere. Wear whatever you want. Very accepting of differences in lifestyles, personalities, race, gender, sexual preference. If you'd like to skateboard down the hallway, thats fine. Lots of playfulness, joking & pranks. Coworkers become extended family. Its full of brillliant and creative people.

Cons

Salary. Being overworked. Having to fight for promotion & recognition. Too many projects results in lack of communication. People take business personally. Did I mention Salary?

Pros

Great people, great environment, interesting or at least not-boring content, opportunity for lots of responsibility, a great place for creative minds, like production boot camp. You will not find such a high concentration of co-workers so fun and creative anywhere else. MTV Holiday Party is epic. There is a large social scene at MTV and your co-workers will become your life. Stay 3 or 4 years and you'll probably wanna get out... Though it was probably the most fun 3 or 4 years of your life. Oh, the stories you'll tell.

Cons

Long hours, often incompetent management, almost zero benefits for permalancers, while you may be friends with everybody you have the feeling of being replaceable at all times and do not feel valued as an employee, often trivial content without much interest shown towards more substantial programming, poor job security, never enough staff, sometimes there are obnoxious co-workers who think they are still in a frathouse or going to end up famous on TV, unwilling to put more money towards the production side versus the business departments. budgetcuts/downsizing all the time... why jump on board a sinking ship? on the production side anyway.

Pros

It's very casual, comfortable, and laid back environment. They provide many opportunities to network. Pretty much only permanent staff receive good benefits: healthcare, 401k, tuition reimbursement, etc.

Cons

They do not care about their freelancers and many are very underpaid. They would rather spend their money on stupid petty things, such as parties and paying for EVERYTHING for rising nobody-celebrities, than on compensating their employees. A perfect example: almost taking away our healthcare benefits to switch to a HORRIBLE "healthcare plan." Viacom also do not care much about the MTV Store employees. They get paid very little with no benefits, meanwhile working very hard and sometimes getting out past 2am with no car service back home. College tuition reimbursement may be a pain.
