Pros

Some of the things I've enjoyed and appreciated most are their commitment to growing their employees and their emphasis on culture and well being. They use a very transparent expectations framework to both emphasize professional growth and determine promotions during your annual and semi-annual reviews. Pariveda also places a lot of emphasis on culture and allows you (if you're so inclined) to contribute to planning events and activities. I've participated in anything from happy hours and company holiday parties to an ultimate frisbee tournament with other coworkers from around the country!

Cons

Wile not a con for everyone it is important to note that you will be exposed to a wide variety of technologies. You may be involved in a project that uses one technology stack and once that project concludes be placed on another project with a completely different technology stack or even technology area.

I have been working at Pariveda for ten months, and one of the things that I’ve been most impressed by is the each person’s dedication to the achieving the highest level of excellence possible. I have never worked with so many people whose capabilities are all in the highest percentile. They exemplify strong professional characteristics ranging from work ethic, to technical knowledge, to charismatic personalities, to perceptive understanding of complex scenarios, to receiving criticism and providing feedback, to networking and relationship building. I am surrounded by people who do not know how to settle for mediocrity, they will never stop striving to work harder and become better. It is exhilirating and contaigous to witness and be a part of. Since joining, I have expanded my technical skillset vastly. I have become proficient with AWS services, mainly with CloudFormation and EC2, and supplementally with CloudFront, CloudWatch, Lambda, and KMS/Systems Manager. I have focused on deployments to Linux EC2 instances, and have been given great opportunity to practice deploying production application servers. Additionally, I spend huge amounts of time working on a CI/CD system, via the Jenkins platform, which has given me strong understanding of the Jenkins platform, as well as scripting in bash. My role as a DevOps has contributed immeasurably to my confidence and ability to strengthen the infrastructure and deployment landscape for any business operating in the cloud. My favorite aspect of working at Pariveda is being the recipient of the firm’s robust methodology for growing employees to their fullest potential. At the heart of Pariveda’s system for growth and personal development, is an expectations framework. It is a construct which provides every rank and cohort with clear, transparent and measurable goals and responsibilities. The expectations framework is detailed and complex, and it is the basis for each person’s assigned roles and tasks throughout their tenure. I have eagerly embraced the framework and, along with help from my mentor, I am constantly searching for new opportunities to grow in the areas which the framework identifies. To clarify, Pariveda does not hand a person this framework and say “here is what we expect of you, please work to achieve these goals”. Instead, every member of the firm, from vice president to manager, is focused on playing his or her part in helping others to achieve the goals illustrated in the framework. I have received countless hours of advice, perspective, and suggestions, from those who work closest with me, and they do not expect anything in return. This is what I love the most, that everyone I work with is fully committed to helping me progress as a developer and architect, as a communicator and advisor, and as a future contributor to the culture of Pariveda. If you join the Pariveda family in DC, you will be astonished to discover how much clarity you find. The purpose behind your daily efforts will never again be blurred or dull. At other companies, the message to employees is: work as a team in order to obtain great success within the industry. This reason often sounds inspiring on the surface, but after hearing it for months it eventually loses its meaning. At Pariveda, you recognize that old message’s inadequacy as it compares to the new message: seek discomfort in challenges, remain introspective and honest, and humbly learn from others. The Pariveda message never loses its meaning, it evolves and morphs to match your progress. And it inevitably drives at the same thing, success and excellence at every endeavor. Join Pariveda and after one year you will look back in surprise and inquire, “how have I grown so much, this quickly?” You will look ahead and say “I can’t wait to see what the future has in store.”

Cons

Pariveda Solutions does not necessarily match the level of salary that would be received working at other industry leaders, depending on geography. As a firm that is focused on the long term horizon, decisions are not made solely based on the potential for profit, but also on the more intangible factors, such as relationships, exposure to risks, talent development, etc. Without attaining the absolute highest level of profit possible, and also by continuously evaluating the most optimal way to spend acquired capital, the employee salaries are not at the highest possible level. The firm is organized from a geographical perspective, so that it can provide services and become trusted partners with leading companies who are located in or around certain cities. Pariveda has a presence in almost all of the major U.S. cities, but requires that its employees also maintain a presence in those cities. As such, the firm is not accommodating towards remotely located employees.
