People are great, but not as "exciting" technically as they make it out to be

Pros

The people are absolutely amazing. There is a real sense that everyone is there to help everyone else out. The semi-annual reviews. Feedback and improving people career appears to be important to the company, even if it doesn't always deliver. Decent benefit package, and at the higher levels the pay is great

Cons

A lot of people get stuck on un-exciting "projects," that are really just staff augmentation at some client in the far-out suburbs. If you're not on one of the upper managements "go-to" list, you pretty much won't get anything exciting. I know this goes with Chicago and consulting, but all of the current clients are in far-out suburbs. Hour and a half commutes each way are common, along with the expectation that you put in 40 hours at your primary client and 5-10 more doing other stuff. Not very competitive salary wise on the lower end.

Excellent focus on growth of employees and making well rounded people out of them Easy access to top management Willingness for people to learn on the job, they are not looking for specific skill sets but rather general intelligence and critical problem solving Focusing on social skills and not just technical skills creates well rounded people You will be challenged and if you are not you can easily let management know to get new projects to challenge you

Cons

There is a feeling among some that there is a bit of an edge to those who are from the Texas offices or originally from Texas - might be a bit of bias... Set salaries no matter what city you're living in (you'll make the same in Dallas as you will in NYC) Some projects/clients last too long and they need to do a better job of getting people onto new clients/projects in some cases

The company's mission is about talent development. Employees are treated as mature adults and are trusted. Company's desire is on local model (although you may still travel). Great networking opportunities. Exposure to other responsibilities (e.g. learning sales as a developer). Transparent leadership.

Cons

Typically requires extra time commitment beyond the 40 hour work week. Work/Life balance can be challenging.
