Pros

Good pay and good benefits. Some of the best coworkers ever in the CCU.

Cons

Safety concerns are not listened too. Much less acted on. Medsurg overseas CCU with lack of knowledge as to what is needed for patients with complex iv cardiac drips and ICU only drips. The ratios are 4 patients to 1 nurse. You are left by yourself if there is only 4 patients. I repeat left by yourself. No other properly trained nurse (CCU nurse who has knowledge on cardiac and advanced drips). Difficult enough for an experienced nurse but done to brand new nurses. You will have a tech but clinically you will be on your own. Med surg is counted as being there for you as well as Charge nurse "checks" on you. New nurses are left by themselves within a few months of employment depends on census more than anything. Charge nurse knows nothing of cardiac drips and or levophed. No support. There have been instances of vented patients for 4 hours or more with a 4 to 1 ratio. Because the patient will be leaving. But this patient is not stable...drips being titrated and going to Ct with patient. Despite it being listed on the Corporate Website and policies as an Icu only drip. Med surg has to be told what to do to help. The ratio needs lowered. The CCU needs to have 2 CCU nurses at 3 patients due to lack of knowledgeable staff to support you. Having a tech and a nurse at 4 or 3 patients is useless for this patient population and position. Charge and House supervisor knows nothing about cardiac and or advanced drips. Its a disaster waiting to happen. Turnover is high on night shift due to new nurses and working conditions. Staff has voiced concerns to management and it was flipped around as the older nurses were tearing down the new nurses.
