Pros

Very good CEO leadership--I hope he stays for another 10 years. Lots of financial strength, which is needed in health care if you want a stable work environment. By far the dominant provider in its region, although there is a significant for-profit competitor, Lutheran Health. Has invested in a new legacy facility that should last 50-75 years, invested in a large, growing medical group and in a great IT system, EPIC.

Cons

Benefits are average to slightly below average for the area, but the health plan sucks. It used to be the best health plan in town, but due to the inability of their staff to manage utilization and cost trends, they have merely shifted the costs to employees by reducing benefits. It is totally avoidable and could be turned around in a year with good management. Parkview's greatest opportunity and greatest risk is its employed physician group. The group lacks a culture and common set of values and is a medical group only in structure. Much of the fault lies with the current physician leadership at Parkview, from the chief medical officer on down. They lack vision and the ability to act strategically. Getting a handle on this issue is the key to the organization's future success. Parkview is rife with silos. It allow weak managers to exist and appear successful. The senior leadership team is largely better than average, but many of the middle managers are weak. Parkview doesn't do a good job of providing continuing education to employees, especially in terms of management skills. It also tends to hire almost entirely from within or from the immediate area. Management could definitely use some new blood. My last manager was so AWOL from the job that they spent only 10 minutes face-to-face with me in the 18 months I spent in the position and ghost-wrote my performance review without any involvement with me!

Pros

Nursing staff is amazing here that’s about the only pro left.

Cons

Parkview prioritizes profits over patients. They have recently cut almost everything I can imagine from our patients and nursing staff salary.
