Pros

Brand value , market leader is payments , smart folks overall. Consistent growth. Campus in San Jose is nice. Some groups have good amount of fun.

Cons

Too many reorgs in product area, ex eBay "leaders" killing the culture of bottom up innovation. Some key tech "gurus" prevent any kind of change in infrastructure.

Thanks for your input. Management quality and effectiveness is a focus for us and will continue to be. We recently had employees complete the Impact survey to help us identify managers that need additional support to be great managers. Our hiring bar for hiring leaders is high, and has improved in consistency since we rolled out the VP Advancement Committee that now has a full vetting process for all VP level promotions and hires. The adage is true, you join a company and leave a manager, so it’s critically important to us that we have managers at PayPal who embody our values of innovation, collaboration, inclusion and wellness and that they coach and support their staff.

Pros

During my time here, PayPal has been a place where I have been able to learn and grow and challenge myself. It has afforded me the opportunity to work across different domains and orgs, which I feel is helping me to gain a broader perspective of how to run a business. I have also had great opportunities to be mentored by awesome leaders. Great executive leadership that is driving us in the right direction. Pretty open to new technologies Get to work with lots of smart people Inclusive to everyone Good salary / benefits - They have recently instituted some more progressive HR policies (Unlimited PTO, Volunteer time off, 3 yr RSU vesting cycle, etc.)

Cons

As with any large company, you will work with (and sometimes under) people who are not good leaders or managers, or just coasting along. Most of the time these kinds of things tend to work themselves out, but sometimes it can take longer than you think. Some people may not like the amount of ambiguity or change that happens due to the competitive landscape we are in. (Reorgs happen more than once a year.) International travel policy was changed to remove business class travel. The cost savings are obvious, but 8+ hour flights in economy can be brutal. If I had the choice to do it all over again, I would absolutely work here again despite the inherent 'cons' that come with any company.

Thank you for taking the time to write such a comprehensive and balanced review about your experience working at PayPal. It is great to hear that the PayPal you experience has so many strengths. I also appreciate hearing about the places where we can improve. We’re very focused on manager quality and ensuring that we have better tools to assess our leaders. The Talent team is currently piloting these tools and will iterate throughout the year to give the organization greater insight into which leaders need greater support or different roles. We are also committed to say focused on being an organization that fully lives into our values of collaboration, innovation, inclusion and wellness. It’s a culture movement that is core to who we are.
