Pros

This is a great place to work for anyone starting their career in sales, or someone who is young with zero commitments. There is potential to make a ridiculous amount of money at a young age. This position will teach you discipline and aggressive sales techniques to be a phenomenal sales person wherever you go. The office is a family (and cult like) environment, which can be good or bad.

Cons

Where to begin. This will be the most stressful and micromanaging position you will ever have. You will lose all work life balance and most of your social life. Managers will reach out throughout the day asking about every detail and where you are. Be expected to drop everything you’re doing and respond on weekends and at 10pm. All sales managers are promoted from within. This sounds great in theory, but they promote the top sales reps who aren’t good at managing. I think Paycom is finally realizing this method does not work, as at least 10 sales managers have been demoted in the past 12 months and replaced by younger sales reps who have zero commitments, until they turnover again. This company does not care about what you've done in the past, but what you're doing today. There are cameras in the office to "catch" you if you leave at 4:55pm on a Friday, or god forbid you leave at 3pm on Christmas Eve (you're expected to be in the office until 5pm). Friday afternoon sales calls often run until 5:30pm for east coasters. You will feel guilty for taking any PTO time. This company manages with fear from the top down and 2% of the company truly feels job security. Office politics are throughout the company. If you're not a manager's favorite, good luck. It gets to a point where the money is not worth it. From day one they make you believe that Paycom is the only place you can work to make a lot of money, which is completely false. As mentioned above, this job will instill in you the work ethic to be a top sales leader at another organization that truly values, trusts, and rewards their employees for hard work... and even better, compensates you the same.

Paycom Response

You’re correct that our sales team positions require an elevated work ethic to be a top salesperson and will not be an ideal fit for everyone. We make great efforts to be transparent about the requirements about our sales positions. As you mentioned, Paycom works hard to go above and beyond to reward its employees for their hard work and it does so by offering advancement opportunities, generous compensation and benefits in addition to a fun culture with events such as President’s Club and Winner’s Circle events. While it’s always unfortunate to learn of these feelings after departing Paycom, we will share this with the leadership team and wish you the best in your next career endeavors.

Pros

Paycom has a great culture - everyone is very collaborative and there is a large emphasis on teamwork. The job is interesting, challenging, and exciting. I have never experienced a day working here that I felt bored or that I did not learn something new.

Cons

The job is challenging, especially in the first 8-10 months. There is a steep learning curve, but once you get the hang of the job it is very rewarding!
