Pros

can work remote, decent/average software engineers

Cons

There are a few senior directors at this company that want to go into every meeting and bring negativity to every interaction - there isn't a chance that goes by where they will not take the opportunity to make point out how smart they are, and how dumb you are. Many people are getting fed up, and over the next several months this company will start to see people leaving. When all the good people are gone, it will be exciting to see these people doing all these jobs themselves.

I’m sorry things are not working well for you but I appreciate you sharing your perspective. Obviously, nobody has all the answers (and hopefully nobody thinks they do). We work in a very collaborative environment and aspire to make it entirely about the best ideas and execution, and not at all about titles. I know we don’t always achieve that however, and I’d love to sit down and hear about your experience, if you are willing. - Ted

Pros

Great money-making opportunities in the sales space if you play your cards right and focus on consistent activity.

Cons

Since the leadership change under Toby’s tenure as CEO, the culture at Paylocity has shifted significantly. What was once a collaborative, communicative environment among peers has evolved into a more competitive and cutthroat atmosphere. Territory segmentation has created tension across teams, and in some cases, incentivized behaviors that prioritize personal wins over collective success. Sales expectations continue to rise each year despite reduced opportunity, and the increased focus on micromanagement has led to a loss of trust and autonomy. Leadership often emphasizes “culture” and “care,” but the day-to-day experience doesn’t always reflect those values. Incentive programs and contests designed to drive engagement tend to feel superficial and disconnected from what truly motivates sales professionals — meaningful recognition, authentic leadership connection, and fair opportunity. It’s also disheartening to see so many talented and respected individuals — people who helped build this company’s reputation — leaving for competitors. Paylocity is at risk of losing some of its best and brightest if this cultural trend continues. The organization still has immense potential, but it requires a sincere commitment from leadership to rebuild trust, collaboration, and purpose within the sales team.

Pros

Used to have great culture, great place to work, work/life balance was fantastic. Company was amazing with Steve at the helm. Has drastically fallen since Tobey took over. Company formerly remote, until end of May when the Paychex D team came in and decided we needed to be more like them. Declared most everyone within a 50 mile radius needed to report to an office 5 days a week.

Cons

Tobey actively trying to kill the great culture and environment that was built by Steve. Several new directors and senior managers came from Paychex and are implementing those values here. Not a ton of opportunity to advance. Pay is decent to start, but annual merit is minimal.
