Pros

Penn State University is a good place to work as a graduate assistant because you receive free tuition and healthcare benefits.

Cons

Penn State University is a not good place to work as a graduate assistant because you are in the middle of Pennsylvania with not much to do.

Pros

Solid research programs. Reasonable levels of funding.

Cons

Miserable buildings. The whole philosophy of the campus and adjoining town considers only the experience of the transient students, not the permanent or long-term staff. Extremely expensive healthcare lock-in, unaffordable for young researchers with families.
