The staff AND NURSES are actively hurting kids. They frequently engage in retaliatory sedation and have no awareness of how that harms children and traumatizes them for the rest of their lives. Staff are quick to put hands on kids when they’re not actually a harm to themselves or others, just a nuisance, which is no reason to restrain or sedate anyone. If a patient has an episode they have to call the doctor to get approval to administer ER meds & by the time that approval is received the child is most of the time totally de-escalated and no longer requires the med. They administer it anyways as a PUNISHMENT. They lie and say once the med is ordered they have to administer it, regardless of if the child needs it or not! They frame it as trying to teach the kids not to act out but that is completely out of line, abusive, and genuinely disgusting. The staff and nurses consistently stoop to the level of the children and act like the children themselves. Staff lash out at the patients out of anger and poor emotional regulation. Many staff and nearly all nurses blatantly refuse to use transgender patient’s pronouns & names, using the excuse that they have to use their deadname for medical reasons when that’s not true. Their prejudices harm children who are obviously already hurting if they’re in an inpatient psych ward. If you can’t leave your bigotry at the door you don’t need to be working with vulnerable people or frankly anyone. I’ve never been more disgusted at so called healthcare professionals.
