Pros

The broader Perkins & Will network is phenomenal. If you are in NY seek to work on projects across other offices. The ability to see different markets and freely collaborate with the full spectrum of their staff is a really unique and beneficial experience for learning and growth.

Cons

(Strictly NY) Terrible environment for long term professional growth. Poor leadership that doesn’t cultivate a collaborative or transparent culture which in turn is reflected in the quality of their projects. Most principals also worry more about self preservation than creating a great office that delivers unparalleled service. There is also a very sexist environment with one design principal. He’s had multiple sexual harassment complaints but HR continually let’s it slide. Would advise not to be alone with him, but he also controls who advances. It’s a very hostile/ belittling working environment for women specifically.

We take complaints seriously which includes an investigation. Investigations are conducted by both Human Resources and Legal Counsel with appropriate disciplinary actions up to and including termination. All employees at Perkins and Will should feel safe in our working environment. We stand by that statement and we encourage any employee who believes they are a victim of harassment, discrimination or hostile work environment to contact directly the Chief Talent Officer or General Counsel.

Pros

Lots young people so can meet new people and friends

Cons

Be careful. While there, I saw others (men and women but primarily women) ostracized and bullied. I ignored the signs but it eventually happened to me. A boss treated me inappropriately. I won’t give details for privacy, but the treatment grew and was institutionally supported. Needless to say it was something people should not ever have to deal with at work. I wasn’t the first, or last, and it was not an isolated incident.

Pros

-Benefits match other large firms (nothing special) -Interesting Projects -Firmwide resources -Digital Practice benefits entire firm

Cons

-Project Management is a disaster, they try to get projects done by unstaffing and setting unrealistic deadlines with clients to achieve the desired multiplier -No 360 review for leadership so they have unchecked 'power' that they use to their advantage -Does not recognize leadership/accomplishments prior to coming to the firm - this stops talent from coming to the firm -Office Culture is pretentious and gossipy, they will use your social media against you. If one person in the leadership does not like you then you will not be able to get a promotion. -Overtime is expected -Managing up is expected -They say they are invested in JEDI efforts, but it is not authentic. Leadership is made up of all white males. -Any small change or new idea takes a very long time to be implemented due to bureaucracy
