Good Company, Not so Good Integration Strategy

Pros

Benefits are competitive, and the pay is good for the area. The company is always driving improvements and gives employees latitude in their day to day work to be involved in the improvement projects. Perrigo as a global company demonstrates the value of employees by offering opportunities for outside training and tuition reimbursement. An internal nomination and award program exists for employees to reward each other for going above and beyond their normal work requirements. Employees are often awarded via this program. Employees also benefit through a company-wide bonus program.

Cons

The company does not do well in meshing acquired facilities with the global Perrigo culture. It has taken Perrigo several years to integrate my current facility into the global structure of the company, and although employees at the facility share the same benefits as all other Perrigo employees, there is a significant amount of driving done by the "old regime". The amount of resistance to some changes is not, in my opinion, in line with Perrigo's overall vision of continuous improvement and resulting "Quality Affordable Healthcare Products".

Culture is the way we do things

Pros

The company is trying to instill a culture to dig deeper and understand root causes, then put in place corrective actions / preventive actions to truly solve problems. That applies to safety, quality, and productivity.

Cons

It can be a caustic environment, not a professional culture. Too many decisions are still political or made in self-interest (e.g. good for a functional silo but not for the broader company). This ends up pitting operations against quality, or mechanics against supervisors.

Good company

Pros

The benefits and pay are good. The company culture is very improvement oriented and collaborative. The company encourages people to grow in different directions within the company and promotes from within.

Cons

It's not specific to Perrigo, but there is a lot of acquisition activity in the pharmaceutical industry that can be a little disruptive. Perrigo has been trying avoid acquisition, but it's hard to say what the future may bring and what that will mean for the employees.
