Pros
Pay is ok not great but ok.
Cons
I was an external hire and worked on the operations team. In my tenure there I experience what is in my opinion a toxic work environment. I loved the mission of the company and that’s what kept me there though it was managed and ran by inexperienced people. First, a senior leader hired old colleagues. So now ex retail cashiers and dog trainers were in management and senior jobs. Even though some had never managed people before. Reporting to them was difficult as some of them hadn’t ever worked remotely either. The person I reported to was one of them. Someone who’d call you 6 times a day just to say hi when in reality they were making sure you were at the desk. They had a mentality where it wasn’t about the quality of work, you had to paint the illusion that you were working. 8am to 6pm. Non stop. Even when there was only 1-2 hours worth of work a day due to slow days. This person would instruct me on multiple occasions to stalk employees social media accounts if they called off sick for example. Senior leadership had terrible turnover like I’ve never experienced in a corporate environment before. 3 of the 5 senior directors left the company during my tenure there. The leaders that stayed were usually, you guessed it, old employees of a senior leader. I have no idea how this didn’t present itself to be a conflict of interest to HR. For inexperienced and unqualified people to be hired to manage people and oversee operations and coincidentally have had been past employees of a senior leader. Senior support was not really there. At all. A lot of it was a game of “ambiguity” under the false pretense of it being a test to showcase your talent. Basically you’d get a project, outside the scope of your title of experience, with no context, guidance or expectations set (not even a deadline) and you were expected to knock it out of the ball park. If you didn’t, you’d be degraded and called useless as I was numerous times on team calls. This coming from the same senior leaders who did not know how to use excel or export a word document to pdf. There were also no opportunities to voice these concerns. When they were voiced there was retaliation. For example, one time there was an “anonymous” survey sent out. I voice some concerns about my leader. I kept a lot to myself but only shared that their micromanaging was hindering our ability to be productive. The next morning, I get a call from their boss asking me if that was me who submitted it and berated me about it. The lack of integrity to single out someone for submitting constructive feedback on an anonymous survey in a nutshell tells you everything you need to know about PetIQ. Lastly, there was zero diversity and inclusivity. I’m not taking points off because they don’t celebrate Black History Month or Pride Month. If you look at senior leadership, you’ll notice that there’s no diversity there. Once during my tenure there was a “diversity and inclusivity” survey sent out to help the company be more diverse. The group who led that was mostly all white people in leadership positions. And why would someone fill out a survey providing constructive criticism if they witnessed people be reprimanded for doing so in the past? Overall I’d give this experience 1.5/5 which is the lowest I’ve given any employer.
