Pros

Laid back atmosphere. Get to see interesting pets. Animals to be sold are taken care of very well. Current manager has daily morning huddles to go over the accomplishments, goals, areas that need improvement, and safety topics. Management ALWAYS gave me time off that I requested whether it was a few hours and or over a week for a trip. They also let me have Sundays off for religious reasons.

Cons

Management WILL NOT fire imcompetent employees even if EVERYONE has problems with that person. (If you're incompetent that is a big plus lol). Once you are cross trained and even if you're not you will be expected to work in every department you possibly can even if you make it known that you are not comfortable or dislike that department. The schedule was always a joke. It would not usually be done until the day before it started, and would usually have huge gaps where a department wouldn't even be staffed, so I expected to get a phone call almost every day asking if I could come in when I wasn't cheduled.

Pros

Unique, diverse & fun retail environment. Gain knowledge about animal health to offer advice to customers. Medium level benefits package offered only to full-timers, but difficult to get full-time. Paid vacation. Part-timers get a smaller benefit package containing even less options, but at least its something. 15% employee discount, and easy to get time off as needed.

Cons

Yearly reviews are often late. Poor and very low raises make you feel you're not appreciated. High expectations from you but little recognition in return. Few chances for promotion at associate level unless you are a manager already. Even managers get burned out early on, high stress for them.
