Pros

Health benefits start day 1. Employee gym.

Cons

90 day probation period during which you can accumulate PTO but you can't take it. And they don't tell you this until orientation. They play favorites when requesting time off. It's not first come first serve but rather everyone puts in their requests and management picks who they give it to. I was a claims examiner and the phone range INCESSANTLY. I felt like a receptionist. Management is nosey when it comes to personal life. They expect you to work from home during office closure (blizzard hurricane) FROM YOUR OWN COMPUTER. But don't allow you that opportunity when it benefits you- only when it benefits them. They have trouble grasping basic coverage laws, basic employments laws. If you have a choice between working here or at Starbucks I suggest you pick Starbucks.

Micro Manage Much?

Pros

Decent pay for the industry. Benefits are okay. Fellow workers are really great. Flexible, though I hear that new hires are only being offered hybrid positions.

Cons

The company suffers from everyone in upper management seemingly being a lifer at Philadelphia. There's no outside perspective. Their systems are inherently micro managey the way its built. "Why haven't you clicked anything in the system in the last three hours?" because not everything is something you do in the system. There is a severe lack of understanding between east coast/west coast business. Local management is beholden to edicts brought down by home office that just don't make common sense. New business goals are outrageously high. In the entire western region 25 of 33 underwriters did NOT reach goal. Those that did had special circumstances as to how it happened. I would not recommend them to anyone I knew. Bad reputation with our agents, who feel Philadelphia is taking advantage of situations instead of partnering. It's unfortunate, because it could be a special place to work. Just a lot of heavy handedness from above.
