Lots of turnover, not a real long-term job

Pros

For a new Ph.D in their first industry job, PSI offers an opportunity to work on a lot of different projects and get exposed to a lot of different technologies, which is a great benefit.

Cons

The downside to this is that your experience may be only skin-deep on many things, working for 6 months at a time on a variety of short-term SBIR projects.

Pros

PSI is fun and easy going place to work with a great group of individuals and some interesting managers. Company is employee owned and they try to get the best benefits for their people.

Cons

Very little room to grow or even potential to commercialize the products being developed.

Good place to start a career, frustrating for mid career engineers

Pros

Great place to get your feet wet on many different projects A lot of responsibility is afforded to you early on

Cons

Most projects and work you do doesn't seem to make a difference. 80% of projects die between funding phases or don't get commercialized. Its extremely frustrating to see months or years of work end in a report and a moth balled prototype. The way to advance in the company is to write proposals. Be prepared to work extensive unpaid overtime to complete them Modest compensation. The more you're paid the more your time charges a project budget The nature of SBIR contracts limits how much time you can work on a project you enjoy Dealing with set billable hours on projects is frustrating and doesn't always produce the best result
