Don’t even bother

Pros

Completely remote and pays slightly better.

Cons

Pie has deteriorated significantly over the last year. There has been so much turnover between layoffs and people quitting because of the stressful environment. This includes many managers and senior leaders. This leaves anyone left to deal with the stress and additional work with no additional compensation. Even after getting a great annual review, they couldn’t even offer a 2% raise. Management does not care about people’s well being and many employees quit on the spot. Although PTO is “unlimited” management started capping how many days I could use and often rejected requests because we were constantly understaffed. Additionally, there are so many different softwares used that do not work and make the job that much harder.

No longer as easy as Poe

Pros

Great people to work with at the individual contributor and team lead level. Company morale during claim oversight (2023) was much better.

Cons

Too top heavy Overworked and powerless to change outcomes due to business relationships with TPA and prior insurer Chief claims officer left the company thanks to the CEO cursing him out Flawed agile methodology due to jumping into poor business relationships with vendors and being forced to “adapt” or make a bad relationship work instead of doing the work upfront to vet appropriately and set up good relationships and workflows before implementation. No proactive support from management to change outcomes and environment that was promised. Lack of communication was previously remedied but now the communication is constantly being told that it will be temporary but nothing is being done to remedy the situation. 4 layoffs/reductions in force (with some rebranded as “restructuring” but at the end of the day, people lost their jobs, so let’s call them what they are)

Late Stage Startup

Pros

It was a great place to work that looks good on my resume. I got to see a startup from its first successful boom to its (likely) end of life. I'll certainly be more equipped to judge the internal health of a company going forward.

Cons

It's not looking good at the moment. Morale is low, benefits being changed, several RIFs in under a year, the usual. You hate to see it.
