PACE OF TRAINING: Not too fast/slow. Electrical knowledge/background not required/expected; relevant info is taught as you go. COMPETITIVE SALARY: A bit above my expectation right out of college. BENEFITS: Affordable Health/Dental/Vision with reputable provider. Company vehicle with all maintenance covered (including fuel & insurance). PTO increases over time; unused days can roll over or cash out. PATH FOR ADVANCEMENT: Clear org. chart with realistic expectations for promotion. JOB SECURITY/INDUSTRY OUTLOOK: Very strong. Electricity will never go away, and Pike has earned their reputation as the best contractor in the business. CULTURE: Pike's work positively impacts communities. Safety in construction is always the main focus. Dynamics in the office and across departments are consistently respectful, positive, and constructive. COMMUNICATION: Clear & timely communication of information from all levels of management.
Cons
I personally have no complaints but here are a few aspects of the job I could reasonably see others disliking. RELOCATION to larger metro areas is likely required. TRAVEL occasionally required; distance & duration varies by purpose. FIELD ROTATION MANDATORY. First 6 months of employment are spent in the field with construction crews to watch, ask questions, and learn. There's no manual labor involved in this, but you WILL BE outdoors, on your feet, and watching crews work for 10 hrs./day.
