Pros
We get to support great clients while working at a great company. We work on today’s new and existing Navy ships, systems and programs, which range from a simple service life extension program of a sonar system, to complex new unmanned vehicle operations, to assisting in the development of a new surface weapon systems. The work is fresh, exciting, challenging, cutting edge (technically and programmatically) and an incredible resume builder --> basically it is "wicked cool" subject matter from interfacing with navy officers to government service personnel at the WNY to the WCs to the Pentagon to the Shipbuilder to the systems integrator. At PE we build tools, we improve processes, we manage, we conduct analyses, we assist in executing & reviewing budgets. Not to mention we provide system engineering analyses tasks from requirements verification to developing and executing plans to witnessing tests, reviewing system designs, tracking costs. We assist in design, development and production through milestone minor, major and critical reviews and/or data analytics to assist progressing our navy clients and navy to continue to be the best in the world. We work at the "Center" of where all Navy things start, sustain and end ..... We work every day at either the Washington Navy Yard HQ in SE DC or any one of its Naval Surface Warfare Centers around the USA or at associate Ship Builders sites or with and at our Industry Partners.
Cons
Slackers need not apply! I know that sounds "harsh" but it’s true here as average here is not "C" level, its "B" level. You don't have to come with subject matter knowledge, but it helps to be a student of the basics of life and knowing the navy world helps. You don't need to know everything but must be willing to learn. You must be a self-starter, trustworthy, a hard worker, and most of all a good team mate, leader/manager and able to ask for help and well as accept new challenges and areas of responsibilities at PE. We are one team all working in many areas so while we all work together to share and leverage our communities of knowledge, experience and tools, each of us must satisfy the expectations in our own client areas. The "bar" at PE is high in terms of client expectations and performance based on our historical record in navy contracting business operations.
