Pros

People in your sphere tend to be OK, Health benefits were good. Education is supported.

Cons

In 35+ years of working for PB I saw a lot of mismanagement at local and corporate levels. They tend to support the old line way of doing things regardless, this was very apparent along with an arrogant management approach to the workers. PB excels at holding the carrot in front of your face and inconsistency in performance reviews. Who you know is more important than ability and a party mentality will take you far. Corporate management promises and decisions concerning field operations are broken or ill thought out and require still more changes later on. Corporate management doesn't like to own any decisions and tend to be vague on just about any topic.

Pros

There are two positives to working for Pitney Bowes. One is the benefits are above average and two Pitney Bowes offers young people the opportunity to gain some sales training and experience to help them secure a better position after a couple of years.

Cons

The major downside to PB is that they are about to become a dinosaur. Technology has made many of their products obsloete and they have been slow to move into this century. They finally realize that the postage meter is a dying breed but may be too late in expanding their line of solutions to be a reasonable business partner in today's business climate. If you are an experienced sales professional the base salaries are very low based on comparable positions with other companies.

Pros

The best reason would be the benefits. They have an excellent insurance program and vacation time package. They also have good training program the issue with it is finding the extra time in a day or week or month to take advantage of it. There are many divisions of PB and I'm sure some are better environments to work then my division which was sales.

Cons

If you are in sales you had better be ready to devote everything to make it work. The culture has changed over the years at PB. In talking to people who have been around, if you are established in the company and have senior type position you can do OK. If however you are new, the pressure is never ending. PB is not held in high regard with most small businesses. Competition has moved in the market and makes getting to the price point needed to reach quota and actually make extra commissions difficult at best or nearly impossible. The territories, at least in my district, were insane, a lot of overlapping of opportunity that went to senior reps. which limited the occasional big deal that you needed to stay alive. Hours spent after a day in field consumed many evenings making other family activities impossible or just no longer enjoyable. The leadership at this level again left much to be desired. The favoritism given some was obvious to all. The confidence in their ability or leadership was completely lacking. Evidenced by 80% of the employees actively searching for other opportunities. The company spends a lot on PR saying customers come first but in reality they are nothing more than a number. That sentiment is expressed many times from the customer themselves. In the lower level positions you are not only competing against the competition but against the inside sales force which has different pricing and terms always more favorable which creates mistrust and bad feeling amongst the customers. These are the key issues.
