Not optimistic any more

Pros

We have somewhat interesting technology and an existing customer base.

Cons

1) There is no COO, CFO or CPO. Beneath these empty seats, the turnover rate for VPs has been high-ish, and none of the existing VPs on the commercial side is extraordinarily good. 2) We are struggling to find a way to grow revenue in order to be profitable eventually. For a few quarters in a row, the sales numbers seemed to be low and the company has been a bit hush-hush on the revenue number of 4th quarter 2019. 3) Product strategy is unclear and it changes often under the claim of us being "agile". 4) I have heard terrible stories about the bad culture in the San Francisco headquarter. For example, the high level leaders fight. A few people got treated unfairly. The company has been involved in lawsuits. To put it in a nice way, People's team is not the best team I have worked with in my career. I'm not sure where they add value. 5) We can probably manage cost more efficiently, especially when we keep missing revenue goals. I see my co-workers travel internationally when they don't need to. I see the San Francisco office having many empty seats, large unused areas, and lavish perks. I am not as optimistic as I was last year.

Unwelcoming, unfocused, but leading in EO

Pros

- Planet is unquestionably dominating small/medium sat EO. - CEO is engaging and effective. - Amazing for space nerds. Rocket launches are fun to see.

Cons

- I worked at Planet for 3 years, and not a single person ever said "good morning". - No one ever wanted to talk shop over a beer. - Generally rude and arrogant behavior by just about everyone in the office. No one bothers to look you in the eye or remember your name. - Middle management was the worst I've ever experienced. The focus was on "diversity" rather than making a profitable and sustainable business. - Extremely high turn over. The people that I did managed to connect with either quit or got laid off. - Planet may or may not have had a CTO, but I never met him or heard from him. Software development is dominated by a few early guys, and there is no leadership and no new thinking.

Company Has Problems

Pros

Free lunches 2x a week.

Cons

Went through a round of layoffs laying off system critical people just to hire new ones that were 1/3 as competent. The pipe dream of humanitarian-focused business is there to distract since they clearly don't care about it at all- doing maybe 1 good thing a quarter to boast to investors. Pay was particularly bad to have to work in SOMA to a point where I should have never worked there. Continuously hiring project managers rather than people to actually fix the problems they like to hound you about.
