Pros

I can’t think of anything

Cons

I worked at Portland Glass for over 10 years, and unfortunately, the work environment became increasingly toxic. There were too many managers involved in daily operations, each with different expectations, creating constant confusion and a “too many cooks in the kitchen” atmosphere. Employees were expected to meet unrealistic budget goals while management often allowed inconsistent standards and failed to hold everyone equally accountable. This left the few experienced employees carrying the workload and dealing with the frustration of technicians and other staff, often becoming the target of misplaced anger. One of the most frustrating aspects of the workplace was the lack of accountability for inappropriate behavior. In my experience, technicians were allowed to yell at office staff without meaningful disciplinary action being taken. This created an environment where office employees felt unsupported and disrespected. Visits from district managers and the people who accompanied them created an atmosphere of anxiety rather than support. In my experience, employees would become visibly nervous whenever they were coming because of the stress and pressure those visits brought. Instead of feeling encouraged or supported, many of us felt like we were walking on eggshells. The leadership culture felt driven by power struggles rather than teamwork or collaboration. Frequent interference from district management made it difficult to do the job effectively. Instead of empowering experienced employees, decisions often added unnecessary stress and frustration. The work environment took a significant toll on my mental well-being. After more than a decade with the company, I made the difficult decision to leave because the stress, lack of support, and overall workplace culture had become unhealthy. There are good people who work there, but the company’s leadership and management structure need significant improvement. Better communication, realistic expectations, consistent accountability, and respect for employees would make a substantial difference.
