Im writing this review in hopes I seriously save someone from taking a job here. I wish I had seen a review like this before moving forward with Power Design. As a new college grad, working at Power Design felt like a nightmare.
I would come home every single day crying because it felt like I couldn’t breathe when I was there. It felt like I had to constantly put on a mask. Everyday I went in to work to fit in and pretend to be someone I am not. Their culture is extremely bizarre and based on appearance, and flashy parties.
Power Design is a very shallow company they hire so many young naive people (like me) and try to take advantage of them by offering them a terrible salary but try to sell you on the facility and all of the amenities and parties. They would rather spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on throwing a company party rather than actually paying employees a decent salary.
There is literally no diversity. They place heavy emphasize on physical appearance when hiring and it’s honestly appalling.
There is a very odd culture here and it feels very dark. They will literally all shun you for taking the elevator instead of the stairs because they want people at the company to appear be “fit”. I was literally warned by multiple people not to take the elevator and that it is an unspoken rule and looked down upon. It’s seriously so sick and bizarre. Also the men/women’s locker room has highly inappropriate pictures of models in power design underwear and it made me super uncomfortable.
They are also extremely big on throwing huge parties for the company and make them during company hours so you are required to be apart of the “culture. PD has a huge drinking culture which to me is honestly just overwhelming. I’m not at work to socialize and get drunk and make friends. I personally have a life outside of work and I don’t want to be apart of a cult mentality work place. Everyone there is most definitely “drinking the kool-aid”.
I was also told AFTER I was hired that going to the happy hours events after work would be a “big” part of my position for “internal networking” purposes. What???. Also don’t get my started on the pop music they play 24/7 when you are in the cubicles. It literally feels like a fever dream. It feels very pre-meditated, almost like they are intentionally trying to keep an upbeat environment so you can keep working, but it made me feel sick hearing the same songs over and over and over again. The cubicles and fluorescent lights made me literally depressed. Where I was there were no windows to the outside. I felt overwhelmed with a ton of different energies and had multiple girls “higher up” in the business make backhanded compliments and snarky comments to me. It’s all about office politics here and people are so intimidated of the CEO, his family and the people that made it into their circle. Also during the required onboarding training there would literally be people in employees that worked for the big “Executives” were literally in the back OBSERVING you and TAKING NOTES on your behavior. It was seriously the most insane thing I’ve experienced.
This isn’t a normal work environment and honestly I just felt disgusted by all the greed and the darkness of the place. If you are sensitive to energies and lots of people please just don’t work here. I only lasted a couple weeks and ended up quitting because I couldn’t stop crying everyday.
I’m now at an AMAZING job with a tight knit company that truly values me and is paying me 25k more than I was making at PD and there is no cult-life mentality.
Also do not believe all of the good reviews, I’m sure some of them are real but they have a massive HR team that does lots of damage control here on Glassdoor many of them leave fake reviews in order to boost power designs rating.
They were also caught literally SCAMMING their employees out of money. Look up Power Design Lawsuit and you will see it. Unbelievable. Please please don’t work here.
