Pros

Premera is an excellent company to work for! I have been here over 10 years, Premera goes out of it's way to do the right thing for their members. I have stayed so long because of the integrity of the company. They take care of their members and also take care of the employees!! The benefits are awesome, and the atmosphere and culture of the company make working here very pleasant!

Cons

Some of the lower level managers can be a little micro-managing, and don't do the best job of leading.

A Low-Impact Place to Work

Pros

Solid benefits: 401k (with company match), medical/dental, PTO - 10 days in first year with increased accrual for additional years of service and/or promotion. Flexible schedule: many positions within my department (operations) provided the ability to establish own work schedule outside of "core" business hours of 9-2:30. There are also opportunities for telecommuting. Casual work environment: dress code is relaxed for a large health insurer (allows for jeans), headphones allowed.

Cons

Excessive middle management, bureaucracy and reliance on policies and procedures. Employees were treated as "cogs in a machine" in general with little room allowed for independent thought or creativity. A majority of work tasks were volume-based and often felt redundant or unnecessary. Poor communication from the VP level on down led to abrupt lay-offs with no forewarning that was being considered.

Thank you for your thoughtful feedback. It is unfortunate to hear that you felt the communication and opportunity to be creative was lacking. Based on your role within the organization, some roles can be more production based than others. We want to work with individuals to ensure the appropriate fit for their needs, skills, and growth for their role. We are happy to hear you found our benefits to be solid and would like you to know that starting in 2016, from day 1, employees begin accruing PTO at a rate of 20 days per year, plus a floating holiday, and additional days for years of service!
