Company needs to do a better job of selecting candidates for management positions that are interested in actually managing their area of responsibility rather than managing up in preparation for their own personal advancement. Personal experience has been that there are more ineffectual managers lacking basic emotional intelligence here than at past employers of similar or larger size.
