Pros

Working with the clients can be intensely rewarding. If you want to learn about hands-on clinical psychology, this is a really good place to do it.

Cons

Management ranges from apathetic burnouts to incompetents, funding is cut every single year... it ends up being a glorified holding cell for people, many of whom have no significant mental health issues outside of drug use.

Pros

Flexible schedule, great for entering mental health field (with no qualifications)

Cons

Low pay, unrealistic expectations for the level of pay and qualifications of people that are hired, underestimated possibility of encountering violent behavior from clients, pressure from management to "craft" billable notes. Overall, this position is a part of the broken mental health system that needs to be re-built.
