Since starting with ProScribe there has always been a very apparent disconnect between management and their employees. There is very little communication between the two and very few opportunities for advancement. At most, you can be promoted from a medical scribe to a trainer to a site coordinator, but the pay increase between all three is very minimal and not really worth it. Trainers do not get a permanent pay raise, which they absolutely should for their hard work and dedication. Instead, they only get a rate increase per hour when they are actually training a scribe. Scribes are underpaid for their work whether they are in the clinic or in the ER in comparison to other scribe companies in the area. Even trainers are paid less than medical scribes of other companies. The result is medical scribes, trainers, and site coordinators who feel very undervalued and underappreciated for their hard work and dedication to the company. How is it fair that a medical scribe with one year of experience gets paid the same as a medical scribe with one month of experience? At this time the only true opportunity for a pay raise is to be promoted to site coordinator, but there needs to be some kind of incentive to continue working for the company aside from just enduring the low pay in order to rack up more hours for med school/PA school. We get very few opportunities to be social or network with other scribes and management unless we have mandatory staff meetings which are a pain to attend. It seems pretty obvious that ProScribe considers the experience we get as scribes to be fair compensation for low wages, which is untrue, especially given that many scribes are college graduates who need to make ends meet. If you want your scribes to dedicate more hours to this job and provide more coverage (which is always desperately needed due to the high turnover rate), pay them better otherwise they will dedicate more of their time to other jobs with higher pay.
