Pros

Protiviti caters to young, ambitious business professionals right out of college that are looking to get their feet wet in the real world. They offer a relatively competitive salary and benefits package that will certainly draw your attention. As a consultant, you'll work directly at the client site and perform a variety of different tasks in various forms depending on the engagement type and line of business. Overall, you'll develop a broad understanding of each business process as it relates to accounting/finance.

Cons

- Work life balance: doesn't exist. Your engagement manager's will often work you long into the evening - No OT: Quite simple- we aren't paid for the extra hours of work we put in - Promotions: they promote on a calendar basis with little to no respect to your work ethic - Project teams: Protiviti promotes a team based structure, however, you'll oftentimes be stuck working at the client site by yourself on loan staffed projects - Upward feedback: Absolute lack of upward feedback channels and acknowledgment of lower management "work horses" - Turnover: Protiviti will work you until you are unable to tolerate it any longer

Cons

audit was boring, some clients were very unglamorous, no sense of compensating for long drives, slow path to promotion, cult like

Life on the Road

Pros

Good if you love travel, and lots of (non-monetary) praise for good work. Hired lots of trainees with no experience, so it would be a good entry-level job if necessary.

Cons

You are on the road 4 days a week ~45 weeks a year, usually in the middle of nowhere. Pay is crummy at entry level and you are expected to put in as much overtime and weekends as necessary. You get reimbursed for travel expenses a few weeks later. You don't really learn much; senior management has a "cookbook" and you just follow directions. Promotion to junior management is fast but based mainly on selling more work to your current client; promotion from junior management to middle manager is glacially slow. They had massive layoffs when the subprime crisis tanked their business.
