Pros

Good core business in audit and IT audit. You could do very well and be successful if your specialties are aligned with Protiviti's core business. It can be tough if you have a specialty outside the firm's core business. People who stick it out and suffer through the lower ranks will eventually get promoted (sometimes rather quickly) and will get paid very well.... but you do need to suffer quite a few years first. If you stick it out, long term it's a great place to be.

Cons

Hours can be extremely long (nights, weekends, travel) and compensation doesn't necessarily match the commitment. People (in same peer group) are paid more or less the same (+/- 5K) regardless of whether you are top performer or bottom performer. Very little incentive to go above and beyond. You are incentivized to be mediocre and as a result there are very many mediocrities at the company. The bottom people often get laid off (up or out) and the top people sadly leave for better opportunities.

Revenue not only thing lacking at Protiviti

Pros

The good people that remain and the memory of what an exciting place this can be to work.

Cons

Leadership leaves a lot to be desired; especially with the downturn of the economy, the leadership team has floundered with decision making. And in making those decisions has done a poor job communicating news to the company. Salary = poor Lack of career development and growth For a relatively small company the management team is out of touch with the Senior and Consultant levels.

Pros

The people I worked with made my time at Protiviti somewhat enjoyable. My co-workers were very knowledgeable and very willing to share that knowledge. Though there were very limited options when it came to non-SOX work (see: Downsides of working at Protiviti), a couple of the projects were actually very interesting and fun to work on.

Cons

1. Lack of variety in work: The company's focus on SOX made it well known in the industry, but it also lead to its downfall. As the focus from SOX shifted, the company wasn't able to adapt to changes and thus is continuing its current downward spiral. 2. Senior Management: Management helped to put the company in its current position. I could go on about their issues, but it is evident that they continue to have problems. For example, looking at the recent layoffs the company has had, it is clear that management doesn't have a grasp of the workers that could help the company weather the storm it is facing.
