Good Place to Work

Pros

They treat their employees well and have a low turnover rate. Overall nice people to work with. The pay is competitive, health insurance is great, benefits are good. The office space is nice, and you may have the option to work remote depending on your department and duration of employment.

Cons

The office culture is relaxed but traditional, and unfortunately seniority takes precedent over skill or experience. I have less vacation and sick time than at previous jobs, and some departments work overtime regularly. The work itself is generally uninteresting.

I regret when any employee’s efforts are being ignored and disregarded. I maintain an open door policy and I welcome you to approach me directly about it. Find me or put time on my calendar. Our goal is to create a high trust environment. That doesn’t mean we can act on 100% of everyone’s ideas, but I want to at least hear them all and if we can’t act on yours, I want you to understand why. - Aaron Suzuki, CEO

Pros

Prowess is a collaborative and an autonomous work environment. I work with many very bright people who care about the work they do. Our CEO is passionate, inspirational and is someone you want to follow. Our office recently moved to the Northup area of Bellevue which is awesome!

Cons

With the new office you cannot want to get a latte.

Not for Everyone

Pros

Relatively flexible about remote work. Solid benefits for a small company. Fairly good pay.

Cons

Women are expected to be seen and not heard. Turnover for female employees is high. Operates like a sweat shop, if you're not billing hours, you hear about it. Salaried employees are expected to take vacation hours if they don't bill 40 hours in a week. Very poor management. Don't expect any support. Talks about quality, but doesn't understand how to achieve it. Excessively siloed for such a small company. Full of passive-aggressive introverts that talk about and not to each other. Non-existent communication--only communication is electronic. No job security--it's all about making this month's billings. Little steady clientele. Misrepresents itself as a tech guru, but doesn't even have tech available for staff to learn on.

Thank you for taking the time to voice your concerns. Since you are a current employee, I can understand why you posted anonymously; your input is upsetting for me to read, both as a Prowess manager and a long-term, female employee. Prowess strives to create an environment where employees can be as successful as they aspire to be, regardless of gender or position on the team. Our turnover rate in 2018 is less than 10%, with 50/50 representation along gender lines. Our current employee population hosts a 40% rate of employees whose tenure is 5 to 15 years, with female employees representing 40% of that group (including one of our two founding partners). We believe those are strong numbers not only in the technology industry but also within employee engagement in general. Successful communication can be challenging in a company where 50% of our employees work beyond the walls of our HQ office, either at client sites or while working remotely. Electronic communication is often the most expedient and efficient communication method. However, we also provide regular face-to-face opportunities for employees to communicate with each other, their managers, and our overall management team. We value these opportunities and invest in them at a variety of levels to foster our sense of community and corporate culture. It appears this has not been your experience. I would value a conversation with you to better understand how Prowess can support you better. My hope would be that following our conversation Prowess can implement changes so your experience is closer to my own personal experience at Prowess.
