Pros

Please note that my three-star rating can go up to a four, or even a five based on your personal experience. This can be a great job if you want to work for a stable company. If you are a two-income family, this may also be a good job. There are options to work full-time or part-time. Vision and dental insurance coverages are good. The variety of job responsibilities keeps the work interesting. Physical work helps keep you in shape. Opportunities open from time to time to apply to work at a location that comes with an apartment. Helping customers can be rewarding.

Cons

While the insurance coverage is good, you pay 50% of the cost of your benefits. You may need a car depending on the district you work for. National management has strict expectations regarding specific quotas you're supposed to meet or exceed that have nothing to do with renting storage. This changes over time so I won't be specific. Dealing and coping with difficult renters (those who defy regulations or refuse to follow rules stated on their contract) can be very stressful. Your pay is minimum wage.

Pros

There is a relaxed atmosphere, the co-workers are often helpful, and there is direct communication on a regular basis with management to check in, communicate anything new, etc. Checking on the units is a regular scheduled thing, which can take time and require a lot of walking, I would not call it labor-intensive. My own manager was very uplifting to people's efforts, and provided a supportive atmosphere and praised achievements. The computer system is fair to use and learn, and a lot of it is linear in use during tasks. Another pro is that some workers get to live in near or an attached apartment to storage offices. They provide snow-tread shoe covers, jackets, shirts, most of which have the company logo.

Cons

Lots of sales pitching required to use with customers, down to a specific script, and one of the tasks is to call customers who have not paid for their unit and push for payment, which for some workers without some marketing skillets, this could be challenging. Management does have certain numbers to achieve, some of the facilities could use more resources or upgrades to tech or physical items. It can be tough to man the office and the grounds in inclement weather, such as heavy snow or ice, since checking each unit is locked is still required. As which most retail and retail-adjacent jobs, there is some risk of burglaries or other misdemeanors, but this risk alters depending on the area.
