Dead end job...

Pros

There isn't someone looking over your shoulder constantly.

Cons

Your District Managers make up for the time they weren't there to look over your shoulder constantly when they visit your. COMPLETE MICRO-MANAGEMENT at every level. They put into effect a "recertification program" which they implement whenever they decide it's time to rehearse scripts again after you've already passed your probationary period. Recertification, implying that you could lose your job if you don't remember their constantly changing scripts word for word. And there are at least 10 scripts and growing. Say the scripts verbatim, and I guarantee they'll still find fault. It's how you said it, it wasn't said in your own words, ...etc..etc.. Then you do it they way they suggested you tweak the scripts, and next time they ask you, you do it their way, and they contradict ever having told you to say it that way. So guess what, you're wrong again! There goes your performance review! Yes, I said rehearse. They love SCIPTS. They have one for just about every human interaction you have with any customer and love to change the scripts or add new ones all the time. The district managers are on complete power trips and it's all about who they like. If they don't like you, they use "at will employment" and a casual grey matter excuse to get rid of you. That's how they did me. I was written up several times for things I thought would benefit the properties I was working at. Why? Because I didn't ask permission from my manager first. Yes, that's why I no longer work there. I was written up for doing something my district manager told me to do, then I was written up for not asking permission to do something positive for the property that actually SAVED the company money and time! Also, sexism reigned supreme in my district and management favored females specifically!

Pros

No pros other than the fact that working nights is not a requirement.

Cons

Within the past 5 years of my employment here at Public Storage on the East Coast; Public Storage has reduced Paid Time Off hours for Store Managers and Relief Managers... raised our insurance... and year by year reduced both the potential for and amount paid in "bonuses". 4 years ago we had the potential to make $800 per quarter totalling $3200 per year in bonus pay. 3 years ago it was reduced to bi-monthly bonus pay up to $250. 2 years ago it left you the potential to make up to approximately $100 per month. And this past year along with our PTO hours being reduced; we were informed that up to only 40% of field employees would receive ANY bonus at all with the top amount being $3000 at the end of a full calander year. A bonus that only 10% of employees in a region of hundreds would receive. All of this while "upper management" receives GAURANTEED bonus money based off the numbers that the field employees achieve. This is likely why you see so many "positive reviews" from the district and regional managers on this site. By the way; there is NO promoting from within! So while other people with little to no experience in this business will soon be Your BOSS...you will be stuck at the position you are hired at until the end of time. Forgot to mention; the company has decided to "do away" with annual raises (which were literally pennies on the dollar anyway) until they figure out if its "in the budget"! Lol. We are talking about a Multics billion dollar company who ALREADY underpays its front line ; has reduced Pto; and has reduced bonus payouts to nearly nothing. Yet somehow they're not sure that raises are "in the budget". Do yourself a favor and work ANYWHERE but Public Storage.

Pros

Non. I would not work here.

Cons

Expect you to lie to customers to get sell. Threat of fire if scripts are not used exactly as instructed. Long term tenants pay more than new, due to continual rent increases. Don't care about break ins, and insurance never covered any customers while I was working there.
