No future, no prospect

Pros

It is just a minimum wage job. Really minimum. I worked in a city without a minimum wage law, surrounded by cities with higher minimum wage. I get paid the lower minimum wage even though the properties around me are just across the street.

Cons

No future, no promotions, no pay increase. Just work till you leave.

Pros

Free rent- as the resident manager I didn't pay rent. Because of the size of the company (total sites + head quarters) you never had to worry about them going under, which means not worrying about losing your housing as well which was a bonus during covid. I had a fixed schedule so I always knew it'd be off Sunday and Monday.

Cons

Theres so much to unpack here. We will start with the size. PS is doing do well they are able to aquire so many smaller companies, and build more locations, but while they are so focused on expanding, they are allowing other facilities to deteriorate. Gates broken for weeks, mold growing throughout buildings, damaged doors, cracked floors, deciding to cancel/forgo preventitive professional pest control, etc. Maintenance tickets get put in that sometimes go unnoticed, or gone about the cheapest way possible (I won't even start that rant). I understand needing to scale a buisness and they are such a huge company they will never change that but everything is always focused on quantity not quality. That goes for the employees too. Operations managers MIA, spoke to them maybe once? Very hierarchy, follow the chain of command. He meets most people, then anything else goes through your DM. Giving my DM the benefit of the doubt that she took on a big acquisition with poor communication, and she was probably over worked, but her lack of organization and poor time management was only matched by her unphased demeanor of everything. Unphased because at some point I'm pretty sure everyone dyes a little inside from being with this company. I had worked for 4 storage companies in 8 years, PS having acquired my previous company 4 months before I left the company. The sad part is people get sucked into PS because its easy money, free housing opportunities, etc but then have to work in these "dumpster fires" as everyone in my district would call the facilities, and not realize not all companies are that bad. Having gotten to work for great companies before, I can't say I wasn't biased going in, from hearing nothing but horror stories from previous employees from many levels from storage consultants to corporate (OMs/DMs/HRs). But there is a reason I left after 4 months. I can't speak on all the districts/markets, but mine only solidified those biases.
