Pros

decent pay, eligible for a raise every six months. There are ample opportunities with publix if you're in the right place at the right time.

Cons

Publix will work you 40 hours a week for long periods of time, with no benefits. I have been working over 40 hours a week for well over a year and I am still 'part-time.' It is very hard to transfer stores if you're store manager doesn't understand your personality. They stress an open door policy, but it doesn't exist. Upper management does not want to speak to the little guys.

Pros

Hourly Full -time and Part-Time associates will receive bi-yearly reviews/evaluations and typically a $0.25, (sometimes more), raises for each evaluation until you max out your pay for your job class. If you do your job well, are punctual, and friendly providing outstanding customer service, you will have the opportunity to get promotions and advance. The 401k Smart Plan is great and available to all associates, full and part time, once you have reached six months of your hire date. Another bonus is hours, hours, hours! Do your job to the best of your ability, show up on time ect. and you will get a lot of hours.

Cons

Crazy Schedules, fluctuating from early morning, mid-shifts, and closing shifts can throw some people for a loop and can mess with your sleeping habits

Pros

Benefits (stock options and healthcare) and job security. No employees have ever been laid off, including during the recession.

Cons

Everything else. Publix does not invest in any sort of innovative technology. There are still fax machines and type writers in my department. College degrees mean nothing to most managers. They also wait until employees are doing almost triple the workload (and no overtime) before hiring additional support. Since corporate is in Lakeland, most jobs do not pay anywhere near what they're worth. You can make at least $25k more doing a quarter of the work in Tampa. I hope they turnaround fast. Our founder, George Jenkins, would be very upset if he saw how employees are treated now.
