Pros

Close to my home. Take classes on lunch break.

Cons

Low pay and recognition. Non flexibility of supervisors. Expect you to do the job of three people with no understanding or knowledge about what your staff is doing. It is about who you know, not what you know.

Pros

Purdue University is a great place to work because Purdue prides itself on being at the cutting edge of technology and invests a lot of money in new technologies. The new nanotechnology center at Purdue provides a lot of room for career growth at the University. Due to this investment in technology there is a lot of outside research money coming into Purdue, providing for advanced equipment and interesting research topics.

Cons

The compensation is low compared to comparable sized universities. The location of Purdue University is another downside. West Lafayette isn't exactly a cultural mecca, however it is only an hour drive to Indianapolis. A plus to living in West Lafayette is that it has a low cost of living.

Pros

They have a work life program and offer family health insurance coverage. Both of these things are due to the main campus. The Lafayette Campus is very professional.

Cons

Senior management does not respect the staff. Some of the AVC level at the Calumet Campus lack the necessary training to hold their jobs and are simply there because they knew someone at some point. After a while, the AVC was able to find a lower level employee to do their job, yet maintain their own status. Yelling, name calling, fist banging and finger pointing are part of the daily routine, sad to say.
