Pros

You really get a chance to meet some great people, student, faculty, and staff included. On the faculty side, pay is a lot more attractive so the really good faculty members tend to stick around which is good for students.

Cons

Staff are underpaid, so people tend to use this place as a launching pad for their career, upper management realizes this and seem's to push talent away before they walk away. New staff is always hit and miss because they won't pay the talented people what they are worth. Insurance is extremely expensive. There is not a lot of opportunity for growth, they do not promote within. Raises are an insult, tax rates increase by more than annual raises

Pros

I still say the best benefit for working at Purdue is the discounted tuition.

Cons

There is no longer job security at Purdue, especially with Mitch in charge.

Pros

For most, an easy commute, but that is likely to change soon.

Cons

Within the past 5 years: Extreme disloyalty to long term "workhorse employees" with great evaluations and productivity - as in mass terminations with no regard to performance. No support, inadequate infrastructure, no opportunities for involvement and advancement and active opposition for those who try to create them. Top heavy and clueless administration goes against their own policies. Most decisions are top down, but the attempts to coat it with a veneer of input from faculty are insulting lies. E.G. recent merger with campus decided with NO faculty or student input - but "Hey, a contest to name the merged campuses" which will likely be disastrous for students and another imposition on underpaid faculty. Politically and secretively appointed president of University. Salaries are 25-50% below comparable institutions (except top administrators.) Take a job outside academe rather than work here.
