Pros

The benefits were pretty good, comparable to other universities in the region, and it is a campus where there is always something interesting going on. There was always an interesting speaker or an exhibition to take advantage of, which were additional perks to being a Purdue employee.

Cons

Unfortunately I found little opportunity for career advancement, and a very snobbish attitude on the part of faculty.

Pros

There is no good reason to work specifically at PUC. It does have some of the general benefits that all professorships have: flexible schedule, limited supervision, teaching is a rewarding career choice, etc.

Cons

(1) You will get little to no start up funds. (2) Promotion and tenure is a total crap-shoot. They change the rules year to year. Some people that deserve to get fired get promoted early, people that deserve to get promoted get messed with. (3) Annual raises are small, 0 - 2%. Starting salary is well below that of other similar universities. (4) No respect from administration, they regularly renege on their word concerning personal funds, benefits, FTE releases, etc. (5) Hard work is not respected at PUC, only politicking is. Working there will be the worst experience of your life. Almost all of the faculty are demoralized and disgruntled--and with good reason. It makes for an extremely negative working environment. Instead of taking their frustrations out on each other (which they do), the faculty should unionize and go on strike.

Pros

Job Security great place for individuals that strive to simply get by in life. No drug tests or background checks required for most position. Great place to work. Faculty has life time job security.

Cons

Mediocre performance is rewarded. Tuition Assistance policy is horrible for a premier research institution. Compensation practices are horrible. Compensation is based on date of hire not experience. I could have more experience than someone working in my department but get paid less based on date of hire. Reduced benefits and flat salary with no expectation of an increase. This place doesn't place value on diversity.
