Pros

Nice facilities/offices, pleasant co-workers, flexible work hours

Cons

Inept management has little to no accountability and trickles down within their organizations. The same management team lacks direction, focus and a cohesive strategy. Teams work in silos, and one department usually has no clue what another department is doing. Very few formal processes in place (that are actually adhered to by all departments). Obvious power struggles exist between executives and upper management. The result? Everyone goes off and does his own thing. I say his, because there are very few females or minorities included within the "inner circle" of the executive team. As more employees leave, positions are left vacant for long periods of time (if ever filled), and the workloads are passed off to the already overworked staff (who actually do try to do as much as they can). Management's expectations of completing projects/tasks is totally unrealistic - everything is always last minute and needed "tomorrow," Since many departments are short staffed and overworked, employees have little time to deliver, and the end product is usually satisfactory at best. The performance review process (if you want to call it that) is a joke. Some managers conduct reviews one way while others do it another way, while others don't even bother. Many employees have no idea what type of pay raise and/or bonus they will receive until after the fact. No one that I know takes these reviews seriousl, because managers are so unorganized and wait until the very last minute. Clearly, management is more concerned about what the board members and share holders think than they do about their employees. Maybe that's why the company has lost many of their best people over the past few years?

Thank you for the review. As with any organization, leaders often have differing views ... which is what can drive 'out-of-the-box' thinking and innovation. Our rapid growth has definitely meant challenges for everyone, but we have made great strides in developing our current strategy, which aligns the different areas of QTS. Cross-functional teams are working together to develop coordinated strategies to help drive success and continued growth. When it comes to open positions, we do take great care during the interview process to ensure we are bringing people into our QTS family who will be a good fit for our culture, people and customers. We are happy to say we get that right most of the time. That does sometimes mean it takes longer to fill certain positions, but we do feel the effort is worth the end result. There Are Better, And There Are Worse...

Pros

What I love most about QTS is the teamwork dynamic. The colleagues I work with are helpful, smart, hardworking and eager to accomplish goals, assist or answer questions. QTS' HR team apparently does a decent job screening applicants because most of the encounters I have had, or have on a daily basis are with individuals who are pleasant, helpful and want to do their best for external and internal customers alike. QTS does cool things to reward everyone like an annual BBQ on site and a couple of luncheons. They also host, and pay for tix for a Saturday at an Atlanta park for employees and their families. Personally, this should be offered during the week so as not to infringe on one's personal time, but it is an optional event. Comp and benefits are in line with what's expected of a company of this size.

Cons

My biggest peeve is there is no teleworking policy on the books. Although collaboration is vital to the success of many an endeavor, these days this can be accomplished virtually. One would think with QTS being a technology -based company, that this would be known, or considered. Recently a major highway was set aflame causing it to be shut down, in a city that has the EIGHTH worst traffic in the WORLD. An e-mail was distributed acknowledging the tragedy but basically just suggested employees carpool or leave earlier. WHAT?! I was disappointed that not a word was mentioned giving managers authority to allow themselves and employees to make better arrangements. Over the fall and winter months, several employees were coughing, hacking, and sniffling around the office space. Wouldn't happen if there was a telecommuting policy. Some of their buildings have one egress/entry point, and no windows. It is easy to feel the cabin fever by weeks' end. Recently, additional office space was purchased by QTS. Personally, I would have happily saved the company some $$ by volunteering my cube space in exchange for working 100% remotely, or even for cube sharing. QTS loves volunteerism, and volunteering is a good thing. However, it's a bad thing, and unfair when one cannot be nominated for, or awarded for excellence if they have no volunteer hours logged. QTS provides opportunities to volunteer at events during the work day, and you are compensated for the time, but what about the work? You know, what you were truly hired for...? If you participate in a volunteering event, your work still must get done. For some, this makes for a long day. Many employees spend two or more hours a day commuting to and from work, who also have family obligations. Now add volunteerism to that...a bit much, in my opinion. However, I am glad, that volunteering on weekends is now included and considered. Bottom line though, is that volunteering is a personal choice and should not detract from one's excellence as a QTS employee.

Thank you for your detailed review. As a QTSer, you know we are powered by our people, and it's great to see that you are a part of our team dynamic. You also know a big part of our Core Values is support of faith, family and community. Therefore, encouraging volunteerism is a part of our culture that is not going to change. And to help QTSers live out this core value, we offer three paid days off to get out and make a difference in our communities. We do hope you'll take advantage of this paid benefit as we truly feel it renews your spirit. And while we don't have an official telecommuting policy, where appropriate, managers do have the ability to work with their team members to ensure the best possible working conditions for everyone involved. I encourage you to speak with your supervisor if your current situation is impacting your ability to be successful in your role. Lorraine Swicicki, VP, Support Operations

I am truly sorry for the disruption you experienced as part of the acquisition of the data center in Piscataway, NJ. We made the decision not to renew a contract, as it is our practice to hire full-time employees for all site operations and facility maintenance services at our data centers across the country. We wish you the best and hope you've found a good fit for your skillset and career goals. David Robey, VP of Facilities
