Not the Greatest Place to Work

Pros

Great colleagues, employee discount and free parking.

Cons

It's a very closed-minded world inside the Q. Too many people get fat and comfortable there and then are shocked when they are laid off. They have lose touch of reality because they have been working inside the bubble and the QVC culture wants you to believe that it's the greatest place to work. I left on my terms because I could see the writing on the walls a few years ago. Ever since then, QVC has been doing some massive layoffs. I feel bad for coworkers that have been affected. Yet, middle management continues to stay there and live in that bubble.

A Dead End Job Full Of Stress..........

Pros

It was a job. Some of the supervisors are awesome but are frustrated that they can't pay us what we're worth.

Cons

They shoot their own and they'll find almost any reason to fire you. You have to be quiet and blindly follow orders that can seem arbitrary. Don't think for yourself. It's a "mother may I" environment. Pay increases per year are set a maximum of 3% and most don't even get that! They don't even follow their own corporate propagandist culture. Their HR department is the henchmen of the company. Some of them are good people I'm sure but you don't know which ones. I've never in my life seen the amount of turnover between both employees and managers too! Don't plan on staying there too long. They don't give a dam about their employees! You are just an expendable asset to them.

Corporate games but good bennies

Pros

Amazing benefits, some of the best in the business. The salary is competitive, but it's the benefits and the location outside of the big city that make QVC more appealing than other similar companies. Asking for time off or taking sick days were rarely a problem.

Cons

Don't be fooled by the corporate culture: do not speak, creativity is not encouraged, neither is innovation or new ideas, extensive micromanagement, numbers justify the means, limited advancement opportunities unless you have connections, and moving departments is discouraged. Middle-management rules and when they ask for feedback or positive criticism don't give any. Also, don't share any life or work goals that don't coincide with staying in your department and continuing to do your work that they benefit from. Head down, mouth closed and you will "succeed".
