Pros

Pay is the only pro

Cons

Culture of not holding the proper people accountable leads to exorbitant amount of time wasted cleaning up easily avoidable messes, which equates to unnecessarily damaged/lost product and many employees on the clock longer than they other wise would be. By the same token blaming the wrong people for the previously mentioned issues just because they are the last people in the change to handle the product prior to the customer leads to a negative work environment and never actually solves the problem. Pigeon infestation is terrible for the dock workers for obvious reasons but it’s just as bad if not worse for the employer because it’s causing the building to deteriorate faster than it other wise would as the insulation in the ceiling is torn and hanging down in many places and pigeons can produce 25lbs of waste In a year so you can do the math on that and dock workers inevitably are stuck sweeping that up on a daily basis which causes it to be in the air and that’s the easiest way for a human to contract any disease from pigeons. Seems like it’s only a matter of time before that would become a very costly issue, much more than just fixing the issue would cost.

Pros

Starting pay at $22, not bad at all. No weekends.

Cons

How many hamsters can you throw into a cage before they're tripping over each other? 15 hamsters. Imagine 25 hamsters and you will have seen a typical day at R+L Carriers. Loads are not secured properly with straps. If the loads are not secured, the freight handler spends unnecessary time re-stacking the pallet. If this happened every now and again it wouldn't be an issue. It is an every day problem. Management is "aware of the issue", except when it comes to your having low productivity. R+L is simultaneously aware yet willfully ignorant. Why wouldn't other R+L terminals use straps? Then I remembered that we are constantly on the hunt for straps at our terminal. R+L's negligence is now your problem. Deal with it, I guess? They are trying to cut costs where they can. Is R+L not a profitable company? Or are they just plain greedy? R+L, please have some consideration for your employees. Give them the tools to do the job.

Pros

Decent start times, great equipment, cool co-workers! Very stable work and easy, lots of hours available.

Cons

Good work ethics = more work. Lousy ethics = less work. The more work you do, the more work they will give you. It's difficult to plan vacation days if you're a rookie, days are always taken.
