Pros

With the backing of one of the most respected car breakdown services in the UK you represent the company as a self-employed agent. The RAC provide basic training at their Head Office, all uniform and materials and paid-for sites from which to operate - usually supermarkets, motorway service areas, town centres etc. There is a degree of freedom in hours of work, given that they have an expectation of results. They also give ongoing training and coaching and a payment system based on commission only which is competitive. You become part of a dedicated team and there is a lot of buddy support. The work gives you freedom and self-management opportunities not often experienced today.

Cons

Working conditions can be unpleasant in the winter months if you find yourself outdoors. Sales are becoming harder to get as banks, insurance companies, new car deals etc., all try to offer competitive products. Being self-employed you need to allow for unpaid sick leave, pension and holidays and ensure that you are in compliance with income tax payments. You also have to provide your own transport for which you get no travel expenses.

Pros

Fast paced with the opportunity to learn how motor breakdown works.

Cons

A very poor onboarding process, that requires to learn a very outdated and clunky system in a very short time, then pressurize you with live calls well before you are bedded down with their system. It takes away the true potential of its employees and penalties then for genuine mistakes due to pressures that are unforgiving. On top of all that you then need to handle a plethora of live calls on a daily basis with little breaks, and worse of all on a very low wage. I also heard the bonuses are unrealistic based on crazy kpis
